9 iconic symbols of Valencia for your next tattoo

There are tattoos that don’t just represent a stage of your life, but a place where you always belong. These tattoos of Valencia are born from that: from pride, culture, traditions, fire, the sea, and our own unique way of feeling.

And the beauty of it is that you don’t need to do something large or cluttered to express all of that. In fine-line and minimalist styles, Valencian symbols can become elegant, delicate, and timeless pieces.

Here are some ideas, inspiration, and professional recommendations for Valencian tattoos, in case you’re thinking of tattooing something that is truly “ours”.

Phrases or words in Valencian (our regional language)

One of the most personal and special options (and also one of the most common) which is no less interesting for being popular, as nothing identifies Valencia quite like the use of its own language.

Some ideas:

  • “Tinc el cor encés en flama” (I have a heart lit in flames)
  • “Terra de llum” (Land of light)
  • “Sempre en falles” (Always in Falles)
  • “Foc i passió” (Fire and passion)

Fine-line phrases look very elegant on areas like the forearm, ribs, or collarbone. For this type of tattoo, choosing the right typography and size is essential. The spacing between letters and the line weight are key to ensuring the tattoo ages well.

Valencia oranges: the cutest and simplest tattoo of the city

You probably already know that the orange is the fruit that represents the city of Valencia. Oranges are like paella: if they’re from Valencia, they just taste better.

If you’ve ever walked through the streets of Valencia, you’ve surely come across countless orange trees. If you look closely, you can find oranges everywhere. Even our famous cocktail, ‘Agua de Valencia,’ uses orange juice as a key ingredient.

So, if you’re a fruit lover, a great tattoo of Valencia for you could be an orange or, if you want something even more minimalist, an orange wedge. It’s a very discreet and cute tattoo that can look great on your skin.

These are tattoos that connect with the land and identity in an elegant way.

Palm trees from “la terreta”

What are there more of in Valencia: orange trees or palm trees? It’s a mystery we may never solve, but one thing Valencia certainly doesn’t lack is palm trees.

You can find countless palm trees, especially along the beachfront promenade; they remind us of summer, the beach, the sunshine… and the great weather we’re so used to in Valencia.

If you’re a true sea lover, summer is your favorite season, and you’d spend every day soaking up the sun, then a palm tree is the Valencian tattoo that simply must be on your skin.

Plus, there are many styles of palm trees -with more or less detail- that you can choose from depending on what best suits your personal taste or the area of your body.

The Mediterranean Sea with Mediterranean aesthetic

I mentioned it in the previous idea, and the truth is that for many people, Valencia is the sea.

Some minimalist ideas:

  • A fine wavy line representing the horizon.
  • The word “Mediterrani.” (Mediterranean)
  • A small shell or conch in a simple line.

These types of tattoos work very well in fine-line, especially when placed on the forearm, ankle, or the back of the arm.

Iconic Monuments: thousands of architectural tattoo ideas

If you’ve done some sightseeing around Valencia, walked all its streets, and gone from one end of the Turia River to the other, perhaps there is a building or monument that you fell in love with or that impacted you the most, be it the Serranos Towers, the Quart Towers, the Valencia Cathedral and the Miguelete, or the famous City of Arts and Sciences.

If you love architecture and you’re the type of person who notices buildings while strolling through a new city, the tattoo of Valencia that represents you best is likely one of the city’s monuments.

Since there are so many styles, from the most classic to the most modern, you can make it your own and choose the one you like best.

For example, this Italian student decided to keep a memory on his skin of the Oceanogràfic with fireworks in the background. What do you think?

As suggestions, it could also be:

  • The silhouette of the Miguelete.
  • A linear version of the City of Arts and Sciences.
  • Arches or details from the historic center.

In a fine-line style, these can be greatly simplified so that the result is clean and timeless.

Flowers as your souvenir tattoo of Valencia

Valencia is known as the land of flowers, light, and love. In fact, Valencia -named the 2024 European Green Capital– has countless parks and areas filled with flowers and greenery.

If you love nature, you shouldn’t leave the city without visiting the Botanical Garden, the Garden of Flowers (inside Parc Central), the Turia River, the Albufera, Viveros Park, or the Flowers Bridge.

And if you happen to be in Valencia at the end of July, you shouldn’t miss the Battle of the Flowers (La Batalla de les Flors). This parade is held every year on the Alameda to close the July Fair, an event where several floats parade while the public throws orange and yellow flowers at them, filling the streets with color.

But also we have the incredibly beautiful Orange blossoms, which are a perfect idea for a souvenir tattoo of Valencia

So, tattooing some small flowers can also be a wonderful idea for a souvenir tattoo of Valencia.

A postage stamp: the perfect travel tattoo of Valencia for an eternal trip

If you consider yourself an adventurous person or a traveler (someone who plans a getaway every chance they get or loves discovering new places) a stamp tattoo will surely represent you. Since postage stamps travel through different cities and countries, they are a great reminder of your time in the city of Valencia.

Furthermore, stamps are veeeery customizable, so you can create one with whatever you like best; you can even choose one of the ideas I mentioned earlier to go inside it.

For example, this girl got a stamp with oranges and orange blossoms, and she added the number 4 because it was the number of the apartment where she lived while staying in Valencia.

You could add your favorite number or the date you traveled to the city.

Fire as a clear reference to the most iconic Valencian festival: Las Fallas!

The most famous and well-known festival in Valencia is Las Fallas. When someone discovers them for the first time, they are left speechless; it seems incredible that once a year, giant monuments are created throughout the city only to be set on fire every March 19th until they turn to ash.

If there is one thing Valencians truly love, it’s fire, so a beautiful Valencian tattoo could be a small red flame.

But the options don’t stop there. Other fallera ideas could include:

  • The silhouette of a fallera.
  • A detail of the traditional hairstyle.
  • A decorative comb (peineta) drawn with delicate lines.
  • A simplified version of a traca (firecracker string).

You don’t need to tattoo an entire scene. Sometimes, a small symbol conveys so much more.

A heart in flames, because there’s nothing more Valencian than “tindre el cor encés en flama”

Arm with tattoo in black ink.

If the previous idea didn’t quite convince you and you want to add an extra detail, a heart in flames could be the Valencian tattoo that represents you.

There is a phrase well-known to all Valencians that appears in the Valencia anthem: “Tinc el cor encés en flama” (I have a heart lit in flames). This alludes to our beloved Fallas, as many of us Valencians live our festivals straight from the heart. Plus, if you find the design too simple, you can always add the phrase to complement it.

As an extra, I should mention that every March I create flash designs inspired by Las Fallas that could give you ideas for your Valencian tattoo. You can see these templates (both Fallas-related and many others) on my flash tattoo templates page.

I hope you liked these 9 iconic symbols for a travel tattoo of Valencia and that they serve as inspiration for your new tattoo.

Frequently asked questions about tattoos of iconic symbols of Valencia

A Valencian tattoo is one that draws on cultural, symbolic, or visual elements specific to Valencia. It can be something very obvious, like motifs related to the Fallas, or something more subtle, like details inspired by ceramics, local flora, or traditions.

Fine lines work especially well because they allow for detailed representation without overcomplicating the design. Still, what matters most isn’t so much the style as how the idea is adapted to ensure the tattoo has coherence and balance.

Yes, but not all designs work equally well in small sizes. Some more complex elements need to be simplified so they remain legible over time. Adapting the design is key.

The key is in the approach. Instead of choosing a very obvious symbol as-is, it’s better to reinterpret it: change the composition, simplify it, or integrate it with other elements. That’s where the tattoo stops being generic and becomes personal. It doesn’t always have to be a well-known element. For example, the tiles on a street you like or a specific detail of a building or monument in the city are great ideas and very uncommon.

Elements like oranges, orange blossoms, traditional ceramics, or references to the Fallas are usually the most representative. Even so, the important thing isn’t to choose an obvious symbol, but to adapt it so that it makes sense within the design and, above all, that you like it.
